Abstract

Under a March 17, 1988 contract between the Fisheries Management Section of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Archaeological Research Services of West Georgia College conducted a Phase II archaeological investigation of WGC 1588 and three acres of land owned by Floyd County on the Coosa River. This land is leased to the Department of Natural Resources for the purpose of developing a public boat ramp.

The assessment was designed to determine the areal extent and stratigraphic characteristics of WGC 1588 and to determine its significance and eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. If eligible, management recommendations to mitigate adverse impacts upon the site were to be offered.

This work was performed according to a scope-of-work prepared by the Office of the State Archaeologist for the Fisheries Management Section of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
