Original Project Description: The intersection of State Route (SR) 362 at County Road (CR) 507 is located approximately 3.0 miles southwest of the interchange of SR 3/US 19/41 and 1.54 miles northeast of the Pike County Line on SR 362 in Spalding County. The project length is approximately 0.48 mile.
The existing SR 362 consists of two 12-foot travel lanes, one in each direction, with 3 to 5-foot grassed shoulders. CR 507 consists of two 11-foot travel lanes, one in each direction with 3 to 5-foot grassed shoulders. SR 362 is a through movement and CR 507 has a stop ahead sign, stop sign and stop bar. The existing total right-of-way is approximately 60 feet on SR 362 and approximately 60 to 100 feet on CR 507.
The project would improve the operation at the intersection of SR 362/Williamson Road and CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road and Moreland Road. The intersection would be reconstructed and realigned from an offset intersection to a 90-degree intersection. CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road would be relocated and realigned to improve a horizontal curve at SR 362. The existing pavement would be removed at the existing Bethany Road intersection with Rover-Zetella Road. Bethany Road would now connect to the existing Rover-Zetella Road and end at Maloy Road. The existing pavement for the old Rover-Zetella Road would be removed between Maloy Road and the new realigned Rover-Zetella Road.
SR 362 would be widened 6 feet symmetrically to provide a left turn lane in each direction with a 12- foot auxiliary right turn lane. The travel lanes on SR 362 would remain 12 feet (one in each direction). Curb and gutter and 5-foot sidewalks would be added at the intersection.
CR 507/Moreland Road would be relocated to the east to align with Rover-Zetella Road and to provide a perpendicular (90-degree) intersection with SR 362. The typical section on CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road and Moreland Road would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes, one in each direction, with an exclusive left turn lane in each direction. Curb and gutter and 5-foot sidewalks would be constructed at the intersection. Where Maloy Road intersects Rover-Zetella Road and where Merrybrook Road intersects with Moreland Road, the travel lanes consist of two 12-foot travel lanes, one in each direction. At these two intersections, curb and gutter and 5-foot sidewalks would be constructed. Merrybrook Road will be realigned to create a 90-degree intersection with Moreland Road.
A traffic signal would be installed at the intersection of CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road and SR 362. The design speed is 45 miles per hour for SR 362 and CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road. The side roads will remain their posted speeds. Existing operation will be maintained during construction.
The CR 507/Rover-Zetella Road shift would require approximately 60 to 100 feet of right-of-way on new location; at the intersection of SR 362 easements for construction are needed. Approximately 10 feet of easement is needed on the east side and 10 feet on the west side. On the new location portion of CR 507 approximately 10 feet of easement on the north side and 10 feet on the south side are needed for the construction of a fence. At the intersection of Maloy Road, approximately 30 feet of easement is needed on the north side and 40 feet on the south side. The total maximum right-of-way on CR 507 would be approximately 140 feet.
Right-of-way on SR 362 would vary from approximately 60 feet to 73 feet. Easements for construction are needed on both the north and south side of SR 362. On the north side the easement would be a maximum 25 feet and on the south side the easement would be a maximum of 35 feet for a total of approximately 130 feet of right-of-way on SR 362.
Ten feet of easement for the construction of a fence is needed on the southwest side of Maloy Road at the intersection with CR 507. The right-of-way on Maloy Road would vary from approximately 60 feet to 120 feet.
On Merrybrook Road at the intersection with Maloy Road on the east side, approximately 20 feet of easement is needed. The right-of-way on Merrybrook Road would vary from approximately 70 feet to 110 feet.
Revisions: The project description was revised as a result of the Preliminary Field Plan Review (PFPR), and now includes horizontal and vertical alignment improvements to the Bethany Road tie-in at the existing Rover-Zetella Road. These improvements are needed so that traffic can flow freely from Bethany Road onto the existing Rover-Zetella Road alignment. A curve will be added to the roadway and there will be minor grade changes made to align the two roads so that there is a smooth transition. The current configuration is a stop controlled intersection, and the improvements would allow the traffic to flow without having to stop. The improvements on Bethany Road would extend approximately 200 feet or less from the existing intersection of Bethany Road and Rover-Zetella Road and would take place within the existing right-of-way. Additionally, a temporary driveway easement has been added on the north side of Rover-Zetella Road, from STA 34+80 to STA 35+20 LT. The easement measures 15 by 40 feet.
