Abstract

GT Hill Planners Corporation conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey for the proposed improvements to the existing intersection of SR 154/Campbellton Road with CR 472/Niskey Lake Road in the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. Intersection improvements would include signal and pedestrian upgrades as well as the construction of left turn lanes from SR 154/Campbellton Road onto CR 472/Niskey Lake Road. Turn lanes would begin approximately 400 feet east and west of the existing intersection. The existing right-of-way (ROW) along SR 154/Campbellton Road is approximately 50 feet. The proposed ROW would be 70 feet. The existing ROW along Niskey Lake Road is approximately 40 feet. The proposed ROW along CR 472/Niskey Lake Road north of SR 154/Campbellton Road would be 50 feet. The proposed ROW along CR 472/Niskey Lake Road south of SR 154/Campbellton Road would remain 40 feet. The proposed project extends approximately 815 feet along SR 154/Campbellton Road and approximately 450 feet along CR 472/Niskey Lake Road.

The APE for this project is defined as the existing and proposed ROW. The existing Campbellton Road ROW is approximately 15 m (50 feet) wide, while the proposed ROW would be 21.3 m (70 feet). The existing Niskey Lake Road ROW is approximately 12 m (40 feet) wide, and the proposed ROW would vary from 12 to 15 m (40 to 50 feet). An Expanded Survey Corridor of additional 100-foot width beyond each side of the identified APE was surveyed

According to the Georgia Archaeological Site File, one previously recorded archaeological site would be affected by the proposed project. However, site 9FU256 could not be relocated, in the field or through background research and it appears highly likely that push piles of debris were previously mistaken for a site. In light of this, 9FU256 was recommended not eligible for listing on the National Register.
