Archaeological Survey of the Proposed City of Menlo Sewerage System

Abstract

Archaeological survey of the proposed plant site and trunk lines or the City of Menlo Sewerage System, Chattooga County, Georgia, as conducted during November of 1985 and February of 1986. Two small lithic sites and seven isolated artifact clusters were recorded through surface survey and limited shovel-cutting. All were found to be small, plow-zone scatters of chert flakes and broken tools or historic artifacts; the ridges along Alpine Creek were apparently used sporadically and lightly during prehistory as knapping stations. They are recommended as non-significant and not potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. No further work is deemed necessary for the plant site and trunk line corridors.
