Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing, structurally deficient State Route (SR) 299 bridge over Interstate 24 (I-24) in Dade County, Georgia. The bridge is the overpass for the I-24, Exit 169 interchange. It is located approximately .6 miles south of the Georgia/Tennessee state line. The bridge will be replaced on the existing alignment and will be completed using Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques. This will allow the existing bridge to be removed and the new bridge installed in 36-48 hours, minimizing the project’s impact to the traveling public. The project will be delivered using Design-Build.

Project length is approximately .16 miles along SR 299. Existing right-of-way (ROW) is variable ranging from 80 feet on the west side of the proposed project to 250 feet on the east side and the existing and proposed bridge is located over the I-24 ROW. No additional ROW or easement will be required for the removal of the existing bridge or the construction of the new bridge.

The median along I-24 and land inside the loop ramps of Exit 169 will likely be utilized for construction staging, traffic shifts for I-24 traffic, and/or moving equipment. The temporary construction areas may extend up to .39 mile north and south of the SR 299 bridge and will be confined within the existing pavement limits.
