Abstract

SR 5 Connector/Ernest W Barrett Parkway (Barrett Parkway) currently forms a four way intersection with George Busbee Parkway (Busbee Parkway) and Roberts Court. Barrett Parkway consists of three 12- foot travel lanes in each direction separated by a 4-6 foot raised median. The roadway has 8-10 foot shoulders on 140-158 feet of right of way (ROW}. One right turn lane in each direction, one westbound left turn lane, and two eastbound left turn lanes are provided.

Busbee Parkway has two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction separated by a 12-foot raised median. The roadway has 6-7 foot shoulders on 136 feet of ROW. One left turn lane, one shared through-left turn lane, and two right turn lanes are provided.

Roberts Court has one 12-foot travel lane in each direction divided partially by a raised median only in close proximity to the intersection. The road has 10-foot shoulders on 76-85 feet of ROW. One left turn lane, one shared through-left turn lane, and one shared through-right turn lane is provided.

There are pedestrian facilities with crosswalks on the north, south, and east legs of the intersection.

The project proposes to modify the four way intersection of Barrett Parkway at Busbee Parkway and Roberts Court. An additional eastbound left turn lane will be added at Busbee Parkway and the existing shared through-left turn lane will become a through lane. Roberts Court will be modified to have two westbound left turn lanes and a shared through-right turn lane. Also, pedestrian facilities and a crosswalk will be added to the west leg of the intersection. All work will be performed within the existing ROW.
