Abstract

This project proposes to construct two passing lanes (one northbound and one southbound) on SR 83 between the Ocmulgee River and the towns of Monticello and Shady Dale, in Jasper County, Georgia. Passing Lane 2 begins at MP 17.72 and ends at MP 19.20 for a total distance of approximately 1.48 miles. Passing Lane 4 begins at MP 4.37 and ends at MP 5.66, for a total distance of approximately 1.29 miles. The proposed typical section for each passing lane would consist of three 12-foot travel lanes with &foot shoulders (2-paved, 6-grassed). For SR 83 in the area of Passing Lane 2, existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet. For Passing Lane 4, existing right-of-way on SR 83 is approximately 100 feet. Additional required right-of-way for Passing Lane 2 would vary from 125 to 184 feet and for Passing Lane 4 would vary from 130 to 170 feet. Widening in these areas would occur OD both sides of SR 83.

This project originally consisted of three passing lanes (two northbound and one southbound), on SR 83 in alternate locations. Passing Lane 1 was proposed to begin at MP 0.25 and end at MP 1.72 for a total distance of approximately 1.47 miles. Passing Lane 2 was proposed to begin at MP 17.79 and end at MP 19.15 for a total distance of 1.36 miles. Passing Lane 3 was proposed to begin at MP 19.81 and end at MP 21.23, for a total distance of approximately 1.42 miles. The proposed typical section for each passing lane would consist of three 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot grassed shoulders. Existing right-of-way for SR 83 in the area of Passing Lane 1 varies from 120 to 200 feet, for Passing Lane 2 it is 100 feet, and for Passing Lane 3 it is 60 feet. Additional required right-of-way for Passing Lane 1 was proposed for this project to vary from 0 to 60 feet, for Passing Lane 2 would vary from 0 to 35 feet, and for Passing Lane 3 would vary from 0 to 50 feet. Widening in all three areas was proposed to occur on both sides of SR 83.

Thus, the changes to this project include the deletion of Passing Lane 1 and Passing Lane 3, the addition of Passing Lane 4, and a revision to Passing Lane 2.
