Abstract

This project involves the reconstruction of the 1-75 at CR 665/Carbondale Rd. Interchange beginning along 1-75 approximately 2500 feet (ft.) south of CR 665/Carbondale Rd (MP 2.27) and ending approximately 2500 ft. north of CR 665/Carbondale Rd (MP 3.41) in Whitfield County. The project includes the widening and reconstruction of CR 665/Carbondale Rd. beginning approximately 500 feet west (MP 2.72) of the existing 1-75 southbound ramps and ending approximately 500 feet east of the intersection of CR 665/Carbondale Rd. and US 41/SR 3 (MP 3.34). The project also includes the construction of multilane roundabouts at the following intersections: 1-75 southbound ramps, 1-75 northbound ramps, and CR 665/Carbondale Rd. with US 41/SR 3. The existing bridge taking CR 665/Carbondale Road over 1-75 will be replaced with a new 4-lane bridge offset approximately 20 ft. south of the existing bridge centerline. The bridge typical section consists of two travel lanes in each direction with a 10-ft. raised median and 8-ft. urban shoulders. The CR 665/Carbondale Rd. alignment continues with two travel lanes in each direction with a 16-ft. raised median and 12-ft. urban shoulders. Sidewalks will be constructed in select locations on CR 665/Carbondale Rd. within the limits of the project. Existing right-of-way on CR 665/Carbondale Rd. varies from 80ft. to 150ft. Required right-of-way varies, up to a maximum of an additional 30 ft. in locations; in addition, easements for the construction of slopes, for the construction of drives, and for the construction and maintenance of slopes would be required. Along US 41/SR 3, the project extends approximately 1,750 ft. Existing right-of-way on US 41/SR 3 varies from 60 ft. to 80ft. Required right-of-way varies, up to a maximum of an additional 40ft. in locations; in addition, easements would be required. The ramps for 1-75 will also be realigned to meet the new interchange configuration. Required right-of-way varies up to a maximum of 110ft. to reconstruct these ramps in each quadrant.
