Abstract

The original 2011 project scope improved Windy Hill Road between US 41/Cobb Parkway and Spectrum Circle/Interstate North Parkway. The scope of this project was reduced from 1.37 miles to 0.21 mile along Windy Hill Road. The scope was reduced to the area contained within the existing Windy Hill Road/I-75 interchange (see attached for original project description). The proposed project would improve the I-75/Windy Hill Road Interchange. The project would modify the existing Interchange by reconstructing the exit/entrance ramps and constructing ramp access to existing collector-distributor roads that connect to I-285/Terrell Mill Road. The project length is approximately 0.21 mile and the existing ROW within the project area varies from 650 feet 1200 feet. Improvements proposed under this project would consist of additional turn lanes at the ramp intersections of I-75 at Windy Hill Road and would include an additional northbound right-turn lane on the I-75 northbound off-ramp, an additional right-turn lane on Windy Hill Road at the I-75 northbound on-ramp, and an additional right-turn lane on Windy Hill Road at the I-75 southbound on-ramp. The ramp improvements would not extend to the I-75 mainline ramp junctions. This project is 100% locally funded and would not require additional ROW; however, federal permits are required due to the location at an interchange with an interstate highway. This project will not impact the existing bridge over I-75 or the interstate mainline.  The project area is approximately 0.0063 square mile (sq. mi.) (0.0036 sq. mi. on the west side of I-75 and 0.0027 sq. mi. on the east side).
