Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the replacement of the structurally deficient bridge on SR 230 over Turkey Creek 9.5 miles west of Vienna in Dooly County, Georgia. The existing bridge structure, constructed in 1963, is a 141-foot x 26-foot concrete and steel structure with a design load capacity of H-15 and a sufficiency rating of 58. SR 230 at this location is a rural two-lane roadway with two 10.5-foot lanes and 4-foot shoulders (2 feet paved). The existing right-of-way on SR 230 is 80 feet and the roadway is classified as a major collector with a design speed of 55 MPH. The proposed replacement bridge structure would consist of a new 150-foot x 38-foot reinforced concrete bridge structure over Turkey Creek at the existing bridge site. The approaches would consist of two 12-foot lanes with 10-foot rural shoulders (2 feet paved). The proposed right-of-way would vary from 80 feet to 120 feet and the proposed design speed is 55 MPH. Traffic control during construction will be by either an on-site or an off-site detour. The proposed project would extend for approximately 0.114 from mile post 0.123 to mile post 0.237.
