Abstract

This reports covers two cultural resources surveys totaling 2,551 acres on the Hitchiti Experimental Forest in northwestern Jones County, Georgia. The location is approximately 15 miles north of Macon, near the Ocmulgee River. The surveys were undertaken in September 1988, and June 1989 in response to timber sales operations. Twenty four sites were found, of which nine will require protection and testing to determine their eligibility under the National Register criteria. Three of the historic house sites, two prehistoric ceramic sites, and one prehistoric lithic scatter should be protected from further disturbance.
