From June 13 through June 17, 1988; Dan Simpkins and David Davis of the Office of the State Archaeologist conducted archaeological testing in the project area for a proposed Interpretive Center along with its associated parking lot and access road and two picnic shelters.

This report is the result of a cultural resource survey covering 1,312 acres on parts of six forest compartments of the Oconee National Forest, in Jasper, Jones, and Putnam Counties. The survey was undertaken prior to planned Forest Service activities.

In July and August 1989, cultural resource surveys were undertaken in the Oconee National Forest to protect and preserve such resources. Parts of six forest compartments were surveyed covering 2,370 acres. A total of 25 sites and 28 isolated finds were located.

This reports covers two cultural resources surveys totaling 2,551 acres on the Hitchiti Experimental Forest in northwestern Jones County, Georgia. The location is approximately 15 miles north of Macon, near the Ocmulgee River.
