Abstract

Site 9Bi(DOT)14 was located on October 2, 2009 during an archaeological survey for Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) project CSSTP-0007-00(644) in Bibb County, Georgia (Figure 1). The proposed project would consist of the reconstruction of two existing interchanges and the construction of a modern roundabout with five approaches (Figure l). Currently, the intersection of SR 74 and Lamar Road is controlled by a four-way stop, and the intersection of Lower Thomaston Road is stop controlled. The existing typical section for SR 74 includes two 12 foot travel lanes with 2 foot paved shoulders and 6 foot grassed shoulders. Lamar Road, Jolll1son Road, and Lower Thomaston Road include two 11 foot travel lanes with 6 foot grassed shoulder. Existing right-of-way for SR 74 varies from 130 to 150 feet. Existing right-of-way for Lamar Road and Johnson Road varies from 80 to 100 feet, and the existing right-of-way for Thomaston Road is 70 feet. Proposed right-of-way would vary from l 00 to 300 feet at the intersections. The project length is approximately 0.35 mile along SR 74, approximately 0.25 mile along Lamar and Johnson Roads, and approximately 0.10 mile along Lower Thomaston Road.
