Abstract

The proposed project would widen SR 347 /Lanier Islands Parkway to a three lane section [one lane in each direction with a two-way left turn lane (TWLTL)] from the entrance of Lake Lanier Islands at Lake Lanier to McEver Road in Hall County, Georgia for a distance of approximately 2.4 miles (Figure 1). SR 347 /Lanier Islands Parkway is a two lane section (one lane in each direction) consisting of travel lanes varying in width between 11 and 12 feet, outside shoulders varying in width from 0 to 10 feet, and a five foot sidewalk. Existing right-of-way (ROW) varies in width between 60 and 100 feet and has a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour (mph).

The proposed travel lanes would be 12 feet wide, the TWLTL would be 14 feet wide, and right turn lanes would be added where needed. Outside shoulders would be 16.5 feet and would include a 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the north side of the roadway, and a five foot sidewalk on the south side of the roadway. Proposed ROW would be 100 feet, and the posted speed limit would remain 45 mph.
