Abstract

As a part of the A-95 review process, an archaeological assessment of these two projects was made. 76-10-13-17 involves the construction of a district office in DeKalb County. A study of the project design and a field check disclosed that the proposed building will be located on a knoll overlooking the floodplain of Indian Creek. An examination of the eroding knoll disclosed no archaeological materials. Since construction will not impinge on the floodplain area, the staff archaeologist feels there will be no effect on the cultural resources of the county. 76-10-13-18 involves the construction of a resident engineer's office in Columbia County. Examination of this project was by topographic (Grovetown) map and aerial photography. The parcel of land which is the location of the proposed site is mostly abandoned field with some pine plantation. There is no drainage in the vicinity of the project. It is the opinion of the archaeologist that there will be no effect on cultural resources by the construction of the project.
