Abstract

The proposed intersection improvement project is located at the intersection of State Route (SR) 247 connector and John E. Sullivan Road/Walker Road in Peach County, Georgia. The existing SR 47 Connector is a two-lane facility within approximately 120 feet of existing right-of-way running east/west from Warner Robins to SR 49 in Powersville. Both side approaches to the intersection, John E. Sullivan Road and Walker Road, are also two-lane roadways. The existing right-of-way on John E. Sullivan Road is approximately 80 feet, and the existing right-of-way on Walker Road is approximately 100 feet. All approaches have no auxiliary turn lanes. Both John E. Sullivan Road and Walker Road are controlled by stop signs. The posted speed limit is 55 mph on SR 247 Connector and on John E. Sullivan Road. The posted speed limit is 50 mph on Walker Road.

The proposed project would consist of construction of a roundabout at the intersection. A separate turn lane would be provided for westbound SR 247 connector traffic turning north onto Walker Road. The typical section would be rural on the approaches with 10-foot shoulders, of which 4 feet would be paved. Curb and gutter would be utilized at the roundabout. The maximum proposed right-of-way width would be approximately 140 feet on both SR 247 Connector and John E. Sullivan Road and approximately 110 feet Walker Road. The total amount of required right-of-way would be approximately 55,632 square feet (1.28 acre). No permanent easement would be required. Approximately 20,916 square feet (0.48 acre) of temporary driveway easement would be required.

The project limits on SR 247 Connector would extend approximately 1,100 feet east and west of the intersection. The project limits on John E. Sullivan Road would extend approximately 1,150 feet south of the intersection. The project limits on Walker Road would extend approximately 1,810 feet north of the intersection. The project would also extend approximately 180 feet east of Walker Road on Summit Drive and 70 feet west of Walker Road on Brandon Way. The total project length would be approximately 5,410 feet (1.02 miles).
