Abstract

The proposed project consists of widening and reconstruction of SR 142 from just north of the on/off ramps for the westbound lanes of 1-20 to approximately 2500 feet north of Alcovy Road/CR 74 in Covington, Georgia (Figure 1). The proposed road will consist of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 20-foot raised median, and turn lanes as required. Proposed shoulders will be 10 feet with 6.5 feet paved (including a 4-foot cyclable shoulder width). The bridge over the CSX Railroad will be replaced as a part of the project. Additionally, SR 142 will be milled and inlaid from just north of the 1-20 westbound ramps to just north of Hazelbrand Road/CR 75 to provide new signing and marking for the four lane section. The total proposed project length is 1.54 miles.

Also, Alcovy Road will be widened and reconstructed from the existing four lane section to just east of SR 142. The proposed typical section to the west of SR 142 consists of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 14-foot flush median, 4-foot bike lanes and 12-foot curb and gutter shoulder sections. The proposed typical section to the east of SR 142 consists of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 14-foot flush median, and 10-foot shoulders with 6.5-foot paved, including a 4-foot cyclable width.
