Abstract

Original Project Descliption (2014)

The proposed project would consist of improvements to the intersection of County Road (CR) 653 (Covington Bypass) and CR 181 (Flat Shoals Road) located approximately 1.5 miles southeast of the city of Porterdale in Newton County. The proposed project would reconstruct approximately .36 mile of CR 653 and approximately .28 mile of CR 181. CR 653 through the intersection currently consists of two 12-fuot travel lanes with an 8-foot shoulder and no median. The proposed typical section of that roadway would consist of two 12- foot travel lanes with a 10-foot shoulder and no median, as well as left- and right-tum lanes where they are required. Existing CR 181 through the intersection consists of two 12-foot travel lanes with a 6-foot shoulder and no median. The proposed typical section of that roadway would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with an 8-foot shoulder and no median, as well as left- and right-turn lanes where they are required. Installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection also is proposed as part of the project. The existing right-of-way (ROW) on CR 653 varies from approximately 150 feet to approximately 200 feet in the area of the intersection and the existing ROW on CR 181 varies from approximately 60 feet to 75 feet in the area of the intersection. No additional ROW is anticipated on CR 653 in order to implement the proposed project, but additional variable ROW of up to 50 feet would be required on CR 181.

                Second Addendum Project Desc1iption (2017)

The current project involves the addition of approximately 120 feet, or .03 acres of cut-and-fill activities, between Station 199+20.00 and Station 198+00.00 for a proposed ditch to improve drainage, which will extend the proposed project along it southern terminus on Flat Shoal Road.
