Abstract

A Phase I Archaeological survey of the proposed Baroucha telecommunications project was performed on February

10, 2015 in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The

archaeological survey area was equal to the area of ground disturbing activity (APE for direct effects), which is a 100-

ft by 100-ft (30-m by 30-m) proposed lease area and a 1543.54-ft by 30-ft (470-m by 9-m) access easement (Appendix

A). In addition, a ½-mile visual APE was assessed in order to research the indirect effects that the proposed tower

may have on archaeological sites listed or eligible for listing in the NRHP The project is located 4.8 km (3 mi) west

of Thomaston, Georgia in western Upson County and 2.3 km (1.4 mi) east of the intersection of State Route (SR) 74

and Sunnyside Road (fig. 1). Billy McCarley completed the fieldwork and subsequent data analysis for this project.
