Abstract

The proposed project will replace the existing State Route (SR) 385/US 441 bridge over Hazel Creek. The existing structure was built in 1925 and widened in 1970, and measures 165 feet in length and 56.4 feet in width . The proposed replacement bridge will measure approximately 165 feet long and 56 feet wide and will include 2 to 12-foot travel lanes, a 14-foot center left turn lane, and 5.5-foot sidewalks. The approaching roadway will include 2 to 12-foot travel lanes, a 14-foot center left turn lane, and a 12-foot shoulder that will consist of a 2.5-foot curb and gutter, 2-foot grass strip, and a 5-foot sidewalk. The project length is approximately .26 miles and has a design speed of 35 mph. Existing right-of-way (ROW) width is 60 feet; the proposed ROW is 100 feet.

There were no design plans at the time of survey, thus the survey area for the proposed project includes all areas within an Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB) provided to the GDOT Office of Environmental Services by GDOT Design engineers (Figure 2). The ESB measures approximately 487 meters in length, 137 meters in width, and is designed specifically to encompass all areas of possible/foreseeable ground disturbance as a result of the current project. When design is complete, the project APE will likely be smaller than the ESB that is shown.
