Abstract

The project proposes to realign the roadway and replace the structurally deficient bridge (constructed in 1986) to the north on SR 25 Spur East (CR 582/Torras Causeway) over the Mackay River, 3 miles east of Brunswick, in Glynn County. The proposed bridge will have a 10-foot, 4 inch median with concrete barriers, 8-foot outside shoulder along the westbound lanes and a 1 0-foot outside shoulder along the eastbound lanes. The eastbound shoulder includes a 6-foot bike lane with a 4 foot shoulder/buffer. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 300 feet wide. The proposed ROW is 355 feet wide. The length of the project corridor is approximately 1.7 kilometers in length.

There were no design plans at the time of survey, thus the survey area for the proposed project includes all areas within an Environmental Survey Boundary (ESB) provided to Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) by project design engineers (Figure 1 and Figure 2). The ESB measures approximately 1.7 kilometers in length, varies in width from 70 to 165 meters, and is designed specifically to encompass all areas of possible/foreseeable ground disturbance as a result of the current project; as such, no Expanded Survey Corridor (ESC) was required for this survey. When design is complete, the project APE will likely be smaller than the ESB that is-shown.

Three previous archaeological sites have been recorded within a 1-kilometer radius of the survey area; of these, none are located within the ESB (Figure 3 and attachment).
