Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project MR-2928(4), Troup County has been surveyed with respect archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This project proposes to widen Commerce Avenue (SR 14/US 29) from Franklin Road (US 27) easterly to Youngs Mill Road. The project would be 1.1 miles long and would require a right-of-way of 90 feet, or 15 additional feet on either side of the existing 60-foot right-of-way. The intersection at Franklin Road will be upgraded with existing project FR-017-1(9) and the intersection of Youngs Mill Road will be upgraded with this project. Widening and tapers will extend along Youngs Mill Road and Hogansville Road for a distance of about 1000 feet. A survey consist with the corridor was surveyed for the duration of the project.
