Abstract

In comp1iance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB- 207(4), Monroe Co, has been surveyed with respect to arc haeo1ogica1 resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in. the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeologica1 resources within the project corridor. Plans indicate that the bridge on Rumble Road over Little Deer Creek will be replaced. The proposed centerline will shift north of existing approximately 570 feet east of the bridge. It will cross the creek approximately 30 feet north of the existing bridge and rejoin the existing centerline 400 feet west of the bridge. 100 feet of right-of-way is required for the length of the project. The archaeologica1 survey was conducted in accordance with GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines• deve1oped by the GOOT Staff

Archaeo1ogists and agreed upon by the federal Highway Administration, State Historic Preservation Officer and State Archaeologist. These guidelines outline general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeo1ogical surveys of transportation projects and are followed during the initia1 identification of archaeological sources. No significant archaeological sources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or e1igib1e for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
