Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project F-056-1(43), Fulton Co., has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in –the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. This project begins at the interchange of S.R. 400 and I-285 and extends northerly along S.R. 400 for a distance of 11.6 miles to a point north of Haynes Bridge Road. From the I-285 interchange to a point in the vicinity of Holcombe Bridge Road, four (4) lanes will be added within the median. From Holcombe Bridge Road north to the project terminus, two (2) lanes will be added in the existing median.

The archaeological survey was conducted in accordance with GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines- developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists and agreed upon by the Federal Highway Administration, State Historic Preservation Officer and State Archaeologist. These guidelines outline general survey boundaries and theological approaches to archaeological surveys of transportation projects, and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
