Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project M-1923(1), S.R. 31 Relocation, Laurens County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. This office is preparing an environmental assessment on the above noted project. This project will consist of relocating SR 31 (US 319 and 441) on new location from the intersection of Telfair and Monroe Streets, continuing easterly south of the Seaboard Coastline and W & T railroad tracks to Jefferson Street (SR 19) for a distance of 0.2 miles. The project design configuration will consist of two 12 1 travel lanes in each direction, separated by a 14’two-way left turn lane, plus curb and gutter. Eighty-six feet of right-of-way will be required.
