Abstract

The project seeks to define a vision and long-term configuration of the Avon Avenue/University Avenue corridor between Murphy Avenue and Hank Aaron Drive to provide a safe and efficient facility for all users, in the context of imminent and future corridor redevelopment. The project will address multi-modal transportation needs and focus on improving safety, accessibility, mobility, air quality, congestion relief, public health outcomes and economic development within the corridor. The project corridor is approximately 2 miles long with an existing right-of-way (ROW) width of between 40 and 80 feet. In so far as the project would potentially include modification/reallocation of existing lanes, addition of turn lanes, and multi-modal accommodations (e.g., sidewalk, multi-use path, etc.), the need for additional ROW is anticipated.
