Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, the project has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

Left turn lanes will be added on SR 24 at the intersection of a paved County Road and a small connector road from SR 24 to SR 56. All work will be within existing right of way. West of the intersection on SR 24, existing right of way is approximately 92 feet. East of the intersection, existing ROW is 80 feet. Existing ROW on the county road north of the intersection is 80 feet and south of the intersection, existing ROW I 52 feet.

The archaeological survey was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists and agreed upon by the Federal Highway Administration, State Historic Preservation Officer and State Archaeologist. These guidelines outline general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys of transportation projects, and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.

No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor. It is concluded therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP.
