Abstract

This report is a review by A.R. Kelly of the archaeological report called "An Archeological Survey of Structures 1, 2, 3, 33, 51, 58, and 60 Grove River Watershed Jackson and Banks Counties, Georgia." Of the above sites recommended for qualified treatment by the University of Georgia survey team, those considered by the consulting archeologist worthy of extensive survey or mitigation are located in Structure No. 51. Sites 1, 2, and 6 are definitely in the Normal Pool. Each presents surface finds indicating relatively high potential for prehistoric occupation, and additional survey tests are required to provide a more adequate determination of the size, depth, and cultural provenance in situ. For these reasons these sites were accorded priority in the field inspection of the consulting archeologist and Engineer Sadler. The environmental setting of each site in relation to surrounding terrain, the degree of erosion and modification coming from modern agricultural activity and logging operations, the particular kind of prehistoric aboriginal occupation indicated by present surface features will be described in some detail for each critical type situation.
