This report represents the results of an archaeological field survey of proposed city sewer system improvements in and near Vidalia, Toombs County, Georgia. Proposed construction areas consist of expansion of an existing sewage treatment plant and approximately 10 miles of pipeline. The treatment plant is located just northeast of the Vidalia city limits. Seventy percent of the pipline work lies within the rights-of-way of existing roads and streets. Ten percent of this work lies in each of the following types of situation: powerline right-of-way; pasture and cultivated field; and wooded areas paralleling Rockery Creek.
The field study required four days during the May 16 to May 19, 1976 time period. An additional day was required for background research and report preparation. These investigations were conducted by William W. Mitchell, a graduate student in the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia. Dr. David J. Hally and Dr. Paul R. Fish served as co-principal investigators for the project. All notes and records obtained as a result of this investigation are housed at the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia.
