During a 3-day period in February 1983, test excavations were conducted on the Hoojah Branch site, GA05S17, an upland prehistoric site in Rabun County, Georgia. The author, assisted by Rodney Snedecker, Assistant Regional Archaeologist, and Jack Wynn, Forest Archaeologist, performed test excavations prior to the effects of proposed logging operations on the site to determine the integrity and archaeological significance of the cultural deposit. Components ranging from the Middle Archaic to Mississippian Periods were identified. Protection has been recommended for this site.
