A Reconnaissance Survey of the Vulcan Materials Tract, Bartow County, Georgia

A reconnaissance level archeological survey of a 673 acre tract owned by the Vulcan Materials Company was conducted by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. during the period of January 30-31, 1992. The survey was requested for planning purposes related to the proposed development of a quarry required for the extraction and processing of granite for crushed stone. The proposed quarry site is located adjacent to Allatoona Reservoir between Carters and McKaskey Creeks in southeastern Bartow County, Georgia. At the request of Mr. David G. Archer, consulting attorney for Vulcan Materials, a brief reconnaissance of the property was conducted to determine if archeologically sensitive areas might be present on the property. The product of this reconnaissance survey is this brief document, which presents the results of our investigations. This report addresses in a preliminary manner the following topics. 1) A generalized overview of the historic and prehistoric resource potential of the. tract:. The locations of any highly significant resources, which include those that are so special that they would constitute a major potential expense or regulatory roadblock;. 3) A map showing known resources and high probability areas which may contain. other as yet undetected resources; and. 4) An estimation of the significance of the known and anticipated resources;. In essence, this document will provide a professional estimation of the resource potential of the tract along with limited supporting documentation. The survey was not intended to fully examine the entire area of the property or fully investigate identified cultural resources.
