Abstract

A series of cultural resource surveys related to the construction of a sewer line extension, the construction of a silt impoundment dam, and disposal of a small surplus property tract were performed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, on July 10 to 12, 1990. The projects covered a total area of approximately 3.66 ha (9 acres). One archaeological site, SU, was located at the time of the field survey, within the right-of-way of the sewer line extension project. This site is potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. However, after the fieldwork had been completed, the right of way was realigned to avoid the portion of site SL1 that is located on Fort Gordon lands. Due to this realignment, additional fieldwork to determine eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places of that portion of the site that is on Fort Gordon is not recommended.
