Abstract

During May and June 1993, cultural resource surveys were conducted in Compartments 164, 174, and 177 for a total of 571 acres on the Oconee National Forest in Greene, Putnam, and Oglethorpe Counties, Georgia. Field reconnaissance located a total of 11 archaeological sites. Five of these sites may contain intact cultural deposits and are recommended for protection from impact at least until further work can be done to determine eligibility for nomination to the National Register. The remaining sites are not eligible and no further work is necessary on these. In addition, three small projects are appended: (1) additional storm damage salvage areas, (2) two stream crossings for Kinard Creek Trail, and (3)widening of a short piece of Jones County road 74 as it crosses National Forest. No sites were found on any of these three projects.
