Cultural Resources Survey of the Proposed Willard Substation Tract

Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., Athens, Georgia, conducted a cultural resources survey of the proposed 1.9 ha (4.7 ac) Willard substation tract for Oglethorpe Power Company, Tucker, Georgia. The pedestrian survey utilized surface inspection and placement of twenty shovel tests on an approximately 30 m grid across the tract. Structures within the viewshed of the proposed substation were examined in consideration of potential visual impact but none were older than 50 years. No cultural materials were discovered and it was determined that no cultural resources will be impacted by construction of the facility. It is the recommendation of the Principal Investigator that in regard to cultural resources construction of the facility be allowed to proceed.
