Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was carried out for the proposed Hawkinsville Golf Course, in Pulaski County, Georgia. Since an Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide Wetlands Permit is required to carry out the project, compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act was determined to be necessary. The total area surveyed included an irregular shaped parcel of land containing 100 hectares (250 ac). No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the project area boundaries through background research with the Georgia State Historic Preservation Department nor with the State Site Files at the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia. Three (3) previously unidentified prehistoric sites and 11 Isolated Finds were encountered during the survey. No historic structures were encountered during the survey. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR part 61.
