Abstract

This project consists of improving the intersection on the east end of the Bainbridge Bypass to allow for its connectivity with United States (US) 84 and the re-alignment of US 84 BU. This project may also need a traffic signal and advance warning beacon. This project is located in Decatur County, on the east side of Bainbridge, Georgia. The design speed for State Route (SR) SR 38BU/US 84BU is 45 miles per hour (mph) and the design speed for SR 38/US 84 Bypass is 45 mph. The proposed project will enhance the vehicular and pedestrian safety at the intersection of SR 38BU/US 84BU at SR 38/US 84 Bypass and Frontage Road in Decatur County, Georgia. US 84 is designated as a Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) Corridor. The existing right-of-way (ROW) along the mainline (SR 38/US 84 Bypass) varies in width off the centerline, from approximately 65 feet to 333 feet (see Figures 2a and 2b). The existing ROW along the proposed side road (SR 38BU/US 84BU) varies from approximately 61 feet to 67 feet in width off of the centerline (see Figures 2b and 2c). At its widest expanse, the existing ROW measures approximately 303 feet in width from the centerline.
