Abstract

An archaeological survey of three areas within Smithgall Woods/Dukes Creek Conservation Area (Figure 1) planned for timber removal was conducted on February 13, 2001. Two of the areas are located along Otali Road within the Conservation Area; the third area is within the reclaimed White County landfill near the southern boundary of the tract (Figure 2). All three areas are planted in pines, which will be removed to allow growth of species indigenous to the region. Boundaries of the areas slated for timber removal had been flagged prior to the survey.
