Abstract

In October 2003, TRC conducted an archaeological survey of the proposed 2-mile Southtowne Trail in Fulton County, Georgia. The purpose of the survey was to identify archaeological sites along the route of the trail, which extends from Harper Street to Cleveland Avenue, running along and in the vicinity of the South River. The trail is to be 12 feet in width. Background research revealed that no previously recorded archaeological sites or National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) properties are located within 2 km of the project area. The archaeological field survey, conducted on October 15, 2003, resulted in the identification of three archaeological sites and one isolated find within the project corridor. One site contains prehistoric and historic material, one is a prehistoric site, and the third a historic site. All three sites and the isolated find are recommended as ineligible for listing on the NRHP.
