A Phase I cultural resources survey was conducted for the proposed 38.85 acre Hwy 142 Development Tract in Newton County, Georgia to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess resource significance. The study area consists of a 15.72 hectare (38.85 acres) tract located along Hwy 142 in Covington, Georgia. One archeological site, a 19' to 20' century house site, was recorded during the survey. An open well remains, but the area has been heavily disturbed by earth moving activities. Site 9NE198 is recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. No additional cultural resources work is recommended for the project area.
