Abstract

This report presents the results of a Phase I cultural resources survey conducted at the proposed Rome Optional Regeneration Site (HP000517-005) in Floyd County, Georgia (Figure 1). The Phase I investigations for this project were conducted by Gray & Pape, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio (Gray & Pape), on behalf of and Williams Communications, Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma, (Williams) on August 2, 2000. This work was conducted as a prelude to the signing of the Federal Communications Commission checklist for the project. Investigations conducted as part of this project included a search of the records on file at the Georgia Historic Preservation Division in Atlanta and the Georgia Archaeological Site Files, located at the University of Georgia in Athens, and a field survey. The background investigations involved a review of the available resources concerning previously recorded archaeological sites, state architectural resources and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) properties located within an area encompassing a 3.2 kilometers (2 mile) radius surrounding the project area. The records search for the project was conducted by employees of Burns and McDonnell, Kansas City, Missouri prior to the beginning of fieldwork. Paul Abbott served as the field director. He was assisted by Joe Curran and Jim Barton. John Picklesimer prepared the majority of this report. Cinder Miller served as the Principal Investigator while W. Kevin Pape served as Project Manager. Graphics for the report were prepared by Carly Meyer and Christopher Baltz. Carol Weed edited this report.
