Abstract

Original: The proposed project would improve the intersection of SR 53 at SR 3/US 41 in Gordon County, Georgia. The project consists of adding exclusive eastbound right and left turn lanes and a westbound left turn lane from SR 53 onto SR 3/US 41. The traffic signal at the intersection would be upgraded to include left turn phasing. Currently, SR 53 is an urban roadway with four 12-foot travel lanes and a two way center turn lane with curb and gutter and sidewalk at various locations. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet wide. The proposed SR 53 would have four 12-foot travel lanes and a 14foot center turn lane with a 16-foot urban shoulder with curb and gutter and a five-foot sidewalk with a six-foot grass strip. The proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 115 feet wide. SR 3/US 41 contains four 12-foot travel lanes with an urban curb and gutter shoulder with sidewalk on some quadrants. SR 3/US 41 has one left turn lane on the south leg of the intersection, and dual left turn lanes on the north leg of the intersection. The existing right-of-way ranges from 100 to 215 feet wide. The proposed SR 3/US 41 would maintain the existing typical roadway section with a new urban shoulder of six-foot grass and five-foot sidewalk. The proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 215 feet. At the intersection, the rights-of-way for SR 53 and SR 3/US 41 merge into one right-of-way. The right-of-way at the intersection for the existing and build conditions range from 140 to 280 feet. Proposed: Due to more detailed design plans, the following changes have been made: The project limits have been extended approximately 125 feet to the west and approximately 76 feet to the east along SR 53/West Belmont Drive. Furthermore, the project limits have extended 150 feet to the north along SR 3/US 41. The total length along SR 3/US 41 is approximately 800 feet. The total project length has increased from approximately 2,299 feet to 2,650 feet. In addition, the total amounts of permanent and temporary easement have increased. The proposed project would now require approximately 0.6 acre of permanent easement and 0.24 acre of temporary easement. Previously, the project required 0.57 acre of permanent easement and no temporary easement. The amount of required right-of-way would remain the same.
