The proposed project would consist of the paving of approximately 0.6 m (2 ft left and right) of the existing shoulders on SR 135. The project would begin on SR 135 at a point north of the Central Business District of Lakeland and end at the curb and gutter section just south of US 82 (SR 520) in Willacoochee. All construction will be limited to the existing shoulders. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the approximately 32.7 km (20.3 mi) project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal. ILighway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based oil the type/scope of proposed- highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
