Abstract

S.R. 16 will be widened within existing right of way for approximately 50() feet each direction (north and south) at the intersection of S.R. 34. S.R. 34 will also be widened within existing R/41 from the S.R. 34/S.R. 16 .intersection to Belk Road. Existing R/W is variable from 60 to 100 feet through the 0.42 mile project. A corridor 100 feet wide was surveyed for the duration of the project. An archaeological survey (Level I ) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodology approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
