Abstract

In June of 2005, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted an intensive archeological survey of the proposed SR 282 Connector, located in the southeastern portion of Murray County, Georgia. The proposed new road will connect the existing SR 282 on the east, with the existing SR 411 on the west. The project will also include intersection improvements and additional right-of-way along a portion of the CSX Railroad. Two archeological sites were recorded. Site 9MU89 consists of an Archaic period lithic scatter and a nineteenth to twentieth century farmstead. Based on the survey, we recommend that the portion of the site within the proposed rightof-way is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places NRHP. The eligibility of those portions outside the right-of-way is unknown. Site 9MU145 consists of the remnants of a mid-twentieth century house, located almost entirely within the proposed right-of-way of an intersection improvement. We recommend that 9MU 145 is not eligible for listing in the NRHP due to low research potential. Construction of the proposed SR 282 Connector will not affect any significant archeological sites.
