This report documents the preliminary archaeological survey for cultural resources performed within an area to be impacted by the proposed Cobb County East-West Connector. This research was conducted by Garrow & Associates under contract with the Cobb County Department of Transportation, Project #4277-8724. The survey area is entirely within a section of dissected uplands of the Piedmont physiographic province in north Georgia. This project proceeded in two distinct stages. The first stage occurred during August 17 to 21, 1990. In this stage, the corridor was subjected to pedestrian and subsurface testing throughout the construction right-of-way between Hicks Road and South Cobb Drive. While evidence of prehistoric activities was light, considerable examples of historic modifications were apparent. Locations of each of these features were recorded, and site descriptions generated. Based on these observations, an assessment of research potential was generated. The second stage occurred during September 17 to 25, 1990. In this stage, data was gathered for the creation of HABS documentation of Concord Woolen Mills. This mill was in operation in the latter part of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. An assessment was also generated on the nature, extent and integrity of the archaeological component of the site.
