Archaeological Assessment of STP-097-1 (25), Tattnall County

Abstract

In compliance wi th Section 106 of t he National Historic Preservation Act o f 1966 and amendments thereto, STP-097-1 (2 5), Tattnall County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) . The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of the paving of 0.6 m (2 ft) of the existing shoulders along SR 23. The project would begin approximately 0 .531 km (0.33 mi) north of the intersection of SR 30 (MP 21.80) in the city of Reidsville and would end approximately 0. 094 km ( 0. 06 mi) north of Pearl Street (MP 27.73) in the city of Collins. No additional right-of-way would be required for the completion o f the proposed project. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor.
