Cultural Resources Survey and Testing of the Vallambrosa Plantation Development

Abstract

In May and June, 2006, Brockington and Associates, Inc., carried out a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey of the Vallambrosa Plantation Development, in Chatham County, Georgia (Figure 1). This was followed by additional Phase I Archaeological Survey of added areas and Phase II Testing of all identified potentially eligible sites in August and September of2007. The project area covers approximately 5340 acres, of which about 1020 acres is upland, another 3907 acres is former rice fields (now fresh or brackish marsh), and 413 acres is other wetland or unsurveyable area; typically freshwater marsh and ponds (Figure 2). This investigation was carried out for Lanyard Development, LLC. and was conducted in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and 36 CFR Part 800, by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61, Appendix A.
