Abstract

The proposed project would improve County Road (CR) 299/Omega Road to State Route standards from State Route (SR) 35/US 319 (MP 0.00) to I-75 (MP 0.30) for a total distance of approximately .3 mile in Tift County, Georgia. This section of roadway would be designated as a SR 35 Connector. The western end of the project realigns CR 299/Omega Road to tie in SR 35/US 319 at an angle closer to 90 degrees, with the new intersection midpoint located approximately 190 feet north of the existing intersection midpoint. Left and right turn lanes are proposed at the intersection of CR 299/Omega Road onto SR 35/US 319. A right-turn lane is proposed from SR 35/US 319 to CR 299/Omega Road, with the project limits extending approximately 200 feet south of the existing intersection on SR 35/US 319 and north to the Cassetta Drive intersection. The project also includes modifying several signs along I-75 southbound leading up to exits for US 82/SR 520/7th Street and CR 299/Omega Road due to the designation of CR 299/Omega Road as a SR 35 Connector. The I-75 southbound single lane exit ramp to CR 299/Omega Road would be modified to a left and right turn lane at the intersection and a median barrier would be added to separate the entrance and exit ramps. The existing CR 299/Omega Road consists of two 12-foot travel lanes with 6-foot graded shoulders within 100 feet of right-of-way (ROW). The proposed CR 299/Omega Road typical section would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot urban shoulders with sidewalk within 100 feet to 120 feet of ROW. The existing and proposed speed limit would be 45 miles per hour. The existing intersection is unsignalized and would remain unsignalized with a stop condition on CR 299/Omega Road.
