Abstract

This report lists an account of all the activities carried out in compliance with those outlined in the CIG Project's Milestone Chart. The activities relate to both the technical and educational components of the project. Those done to carry out the technical portion included nine weeks of field research at the Grove's Creek archaeological site, 9CH71 , located on Skidaway Island, Chatham County, Georgia. The field activities included the mapping and total excavation of areas of the site that were excavated by the ELDERHOSTEL teams prior to 2006. The CIG research team, composed of one student assistant and numerous volunteers and directed by the Principal Investigator, worked in parallel with the ELDERHOSTEL teams in November-December, and later, with the University of Georgia archaeological field school for two weeks in June, but focused on Structure 4 as called for by the CIG Project research design. The educational activities included site visits during the field research and consultation with UGA Marine Extension personnel at the Skidaway campus. This enabled our UGA personnel tasked with the educational component of the CIG grant to develop informed ideas as to the potential format and content of the educational materials developed and produced as deliverables. All activities conducted by both the education and field research teams were successful and meet the requirements outlined in our CIG Project proposal.
