Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Project P.I. No. 0013690 is a pedestrian upgrades project for 21 locations in Floyd County, Georgia. The proposed project would consist of pedestrian upgrades at 21 locations within Floyd County due to the existing pedestrian infrastructure not meeting with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards, creating safety hazards for pedestrians. The project would improve pedestrian mobility at each intersection by adding and upgrading pedestrian infrastructure and equipment and bringing the intersections up to ADA standards. Pedestrian upgrades include the addition of crosswalks, pedestrian signs, signal head and pushbuttons, cabinet equipment, ADA-compliant ramps, and refuge islands. Easement would be needed at some project intersections. Additionally, curb cuts are anticipated as part of the pedestrian facility installations. The existing typical section varies from intersection to intersection. The existing right-of-way (ROW) width varies from intersection to intersection. No acquisition of additional ROW is anticipated (see Figures 1-12).
